Our newest additions are known as the Trio of Terror. These three bundles or trouble were from North Carolina, and there’s a story to be told as to how we got them. Originally we had wanted one more little female puggy to call our own, but we stumbled across a whole litter of little girls and quickly decided that two would be better to keep each other company. We made the call, passed the idea through papa (quite the feat I must say), and made arrangements to fly down and pick up the girls. Just days before the flight the breeders called us up, begging that we take the last girl they had left so that the three of them could stay together. Two flights to North Carolina later, we had Molly, Daisy, and Penny.

The adjustment didn’t take long, in fact within days they truly thought they ran the place; which isn’t too far from the truth. Molly is our provoker. She chases down the cats and is then surprised when they go after her. Daisy is the mouth. She has a voice and an opinion, and she’ll share both. Then there’s Penny, the trouble maker. Whenever there’s trouble you know that Molly or Daisy may be involved, but it’s guaranteed that Penny has something to do with it. All together I present to you, our Trio of Terror.

We got Millie not long after Bo, and together as puppies they raised only the highest quality of hell. Soon, Bo was growing bigger around the waist, but Millie was growing something that no Pug in the history of Pugs has ever had; a nose. Our newest little puggy was only half puggy; the other half was pure Chihuahua, making Millie a Chug. Our little Mexican Jumping Bean quickly became part of the family, and although she wasn’t what we expected, we fell in love with her just the same. Today she is also known as Aunty Millie. When Riley had the first litter of puppies Millie took to the little ones as if they were her own. She would spend the whole day playing with the babies and even herding them together when we brought them outside. That is why we are confident that Millie will make a terrific mum for her own little ones.

He is quite big for a Pug (and no I don’t mean chunky) He is just big and muscular. But then again his father (who was a show dog) was a large handsome boy as well. We like calling Bo our studmuffin because he is a complex fella. On one hand he is 100% boy… a big lumux who runs thru the house at full tilt, has no idea of his power, strength, and weight, loves to play rough, the more you tussle with him the happier he is… Then there is the other hand… the muffin end of things. Bo loves satin and lace. This is no joke, he really does love it. As anyone with a Pug or two knows your days of going into the bathroom and having any privacy are over, in they come. He loves to go behind the lace shower curtain and position himself just right so that the lace drapes over his head and looks up at you with the most angelic eyes….. Any time you sit at the kitchen table while wearing a skirt or nighty he goes under the seat and comes out between your legs just so he can sit there with it draped over his head. I think our boy has some issues but we just love him to death. He gives the best Pug hugs, makes the most beautiful pups, and has a heart of pure gold… isn’t that all that matters?

She is the reason we fell head over heels with Pugs. It all started in 2005 with my daughter, as any parent knows, most things do. She wanted a dog and at the time we were living in an apartment. I wasn’t crazy about the idea, and most dogs need a lot of exercise (not my strong point). I have to hand it to her, she did a lot of research and came so me with all the facts… I took some time, did my own checking and figured a Pug just might be the dog for us. Along comes Riley… this bubbly, sweet, fun loving little bundle of Pug. She captured out hearts from that first day. As with a lot of Pugs, she wasn’t the easiest to house train, but she came around. In time she grew not only in size, but as most Pugs do, in girth…. hence the nickname Porkchop. She actually likes being calls Porkchop better than Riley. How do I know this, I can see the twinkle in her eyes. You thought I was going to say it was because she came when I called her. No, no, as any Pug lovers knows, Pugs have the same condition that most teenagers and the elderly have, selective hearing.

Riley is living proof that the old saying about Pugs is true… “Pugs are like potato chips, you can’t have just one“.

When selecting a dog, it’s important to get the right breed for you so that the experience is a positive one. There are many things you should consider before you even begin your search. My hope is that this artical will help you decide whether YOUR personality and lifestyle fits with the nature and characteristics of the Pug breed. Please consider the downsides carefully before deciding if a Pug is right for you.

Health Issues:

The Pug, if not well bred, can require more veterinary care than the average breed of dog. So please keep in mind that you may be spending more time and money at your vet with a Pug. Not every Pug will require frequent vet visits, but some do. If this scares you, then a Pug may not be for you.

Let the FUR fly:

Pugs shed a lot! It doesn’t matter that they have short fur or if you wash them weekly. Pugs shed!… I am still not sure why our little ones aren’t bald! So please keep this in mind. If having your house and wardrobe spotless is your top priority, then a Pug may not be for you.

Potty training:

Pugs are not the easiest dogs in the world to housetrain. They tend to have a stubborn streak making it a bit harder. It may take 3 to a full 12 months to housetrain a Pug. If this sounds like more than you barganed for, then a Pyg may not be for you.

The clingy Pug:

Pugs were bred to be companion dogs and as such need human companionship to survive. They will want to be close to you at all times. Even if you have more than one Pug, they still want YOU, that just means you have more than one Pug as your shadow. If you are the kind of person who would be bothered by this, a Pug may not be for you.

Pugs Don’t do exercise:

Pug weren’t made for speed. Their short snout makes breathing harder for them. Pugs cannot tolerate high temperatures and humidity. This type of weather is unhealthy for Pugs, and over exposure to this type of weather can cause immediate or long-term health problems ranging from heat stroke to organ damage.Pugs are more of the “lets cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie” kind of dog. If you are looking for a dog that wants to spend a lot of time outside running around… A Pug may not be for you.

Pug, the maintenance manual:

Because Pugs don’t spend a lot of time running around outside, their nails tend not to get worn down as they would on other dogs. Therefore you do need to make sure they are kept clipped. The wrinkles on a Pug may looks sweet to you, but they bo need to be kept cleaned so they don’t get infected. This is the same for their ears, about once a week or so they need to be cleaning out with a clean moist facecloth. If this isn’t something you want to do regularly, then a Pug may not be for you.

I’m not slow I just don’t like to rush
I don’t growl I snort with delight
I’m not a pig I’m a Pug alright

I’m cute as a button with crinkles and rolls
And if you’re not looking I’ll come chew your toes
My brown eyes are bulgy my tongue curls out
My face is all wrinkled pushed in by my snout

I laze around most of the day
After a very short time of play
A Pugs life is simple A Pugs life is fun
A Pugs life is spent in the shade not the sun

I’ll say it again I’m not fat I’m not slow
I just don’t have anywhere to go
So the next time you see that my skin’s not too tight
Remember who I am I’m a Pug all right.

My pug, Dharma,
is a real delight.
She wheezes and farts,
and snores through the night.

She is perpetually happy,
always in a good mood.
But her real self comes out
with the offer of food!

She spins in circles,
so excited for a trip.
But want to trim her nails?
She’ll give you the slip!

She has run of the house,
comfy beds galore,
but when I come home from work,
her nap spot? The floor!

Yes, the life of my pug
is the life of ease.
But when she sleeps on my lap,
why MUST she sneeze?
